Telstraclear Pilots Telecom’s High Speed Network

Telstraclear Pilots Telecom’s High Speed Network

TelstraClear is the first service provider to test Telecom Wholesale’s new fibre based high speed network service, called HSNS. The new commercial service will allow service providers, like TelstraClear, to extend their networks or build a business-grade private network solution similar to Telecom’s One Office.

This is the first wholesale network connectivity product to be built on Telecom’s new Ethernet access platform.

The TelstraClear pilot, which officially started last week, will test the connectivity and associated elements of HSNS including the Ethernet handover link that connects the service with TelstraClear’s network.

TelstraClear Head of Enterprise and Government Mark Wilson says the HSNS service will build on an area the company already has strength in, particularly in the enterprise space.

“This new platform allows us to extend our leading high-end voice and data services to areas beyond our current network reach. It opens up competition, enabling us to offer services to customers who were previously unviable due to network build constraints. We’re pleased to be the first to trial the service, and look forward to bringing it to market shortly.”

HSNS is a layer 2 access tail service that provides the underlying connectivity or foundation that service providers build on, incorporating their own managed services, to create a total high bandwidth, network solution that can support real-time applications. Delivered over fibre cables rather than traditional copper, HSNS will provide access options of 10Mbps, 100Mbps or 1Gbps, delivering speeds from 128Kbps up to 1Gbps.

“HSNS is a key part of the development of our next generation network,” said Matt Crockett, General Manager of Telecom Wholesale. “HSNS combines all the newest parts of the Telecom network including the Ethernet access platform and later the ISAMs, to create the first of our next generation business-grade access services. It’s fast and reliable, and it’s great to see that TelstraClear are eager to incorporate our offering into their services.”

After the month-long trial, HSNS will initially be made available in key Auckland exchanges. It will progressively roll-out to other main centres by December 2007, followed by the regional roll-out throughout 2008.
