G J Gardner Builds `No Cost’ House

G J Gardner Builds `No Cost’ House
To Boost Hospice Funds

Leading construction company G J Gardner Homes is building a three-bedroom + study `no-cost’ house in Orewa in aid of the Hibiscus Coast Hospice.

As well as G J Gardner Homes, a range of local and national businesses including PlaceMakers, Plumbing World, Fisher & Paykel, Stevensons and Pink Batts have donated their time, labour and products to the project at no cost.

The house will serve as a showhome for three months and will then be sold at auction, where it is expected to fetch more than $600,000.

The fund raising project is the brainchild of property developers, Leigh Hopper, Ian Boocock and Sir Ross Jansen, who brought the idea to GJ Gardner Homes, Rodney.

Ross Morley at G J Gardner explains: ‘The idea of building a house at no cost and selling it with all proceeds going to the hospice was an exciting challenge.

‘It took some doing but, with the house almost complete, I have been bowled over by the support this project has generated in the community.

‘Everyone involved has enjoyed giving something back to the local area. It has been a real team effort’.

Hospice Chairman Howard Jury adds:

‘This is quite simply one of the most generous donations ever bestowed on this hospice.

What makes it so special is the huge number of people involved and that most of them live and work in the local area. It is truly is a gift from the community to the community’.

Building began in early 2007 and is expected to be complete by the 29th September, 2007.
