One News Weather Team Announced

One News Weather Team Announced

Karen Olsen and Jim Hickey

*******

TVNZ has announced that Karen Olsen and Jim Hickey are the new ONE News Weather team.

Jim and Karen – who both have academic qualifications in meteorology – will be reporting weather from the field as well as presenting the nightly forecast. Their weather expertise will be the foundation of a commitment by ONE News to providing New Zealanders with the most in-depth, up-to-date, and relevant weather service.

ONE News editor Paul Patrick says Karen and Jim are New Zealand's premier weathercasters.

"New Zealanders tell us that they place a high value on authoritative weather coverage, and climate change is one of the biggest news issues of our time. Karen and Jim have the skills and experience to interpret this specialist field, and they share a strong practical understanding of how the weather affects New Zealand's geographically diverse communities.

"Viewers will soon see a different weather presentation style on ONE News at 6pm that reflects the importance New Zealanders place on it."

Meteorologist Karen Olsen has been part of the ONE News weather team since 1994, joining TVNZ after a career with the MetService that included a year-long stint on Raoul Island. (Karen may well have been born to be a weathercaster – she shares her birthday with World Meteorological Day.)
