SKYCITY Leads The Way In The Pink Crusade

On Monday, October 1 2007, SKYCITY will lead the world in marking October as international Breast Cancer Awareness Month by turning the Sky Tower hot pink as part of the Global Illumination Campaign.

The Global Illumination Campaign is where famous landmarks light up pink to highlight and create awareness that early detection is the best protection against breast cancer.
Other international landmarks joining the pink crusade include the Sydney Opera House, The Empire State Building in New York, The Panama Canal, Niagara Falls in Canada, Table Mountain in Cape Town and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.

Kylie Archer, SKYCITY Community Relations and Sponsorship Manager, says SKYCITY is delighted that the Sky Tower is the landmark leading the world into October’s Global Illumination month for the eighth year in a row.

“Three other SKYCITY properties - SKYCITY Hamilton, SKYCITY Darwin and SKYCITY Adelaide - are also lighting pink to highlight the importance of regular checks.

“With breast cancer being one of the top causes of death among women, SKYCITY wants to show support for all those affected by breast cancer”.

Other than turning the tower pink, SKYCITY has also purchased fundraising pink ribbons for all SKYCITY employees and has made the SKYCITY properties in Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown a central place for people to donate to The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.
