Retail giant joins Buy NZ Made campaign

Retail giant Foodstuffs has thrown its weight behind the Buy NZ Made campaign, signing up its Four Square, PAK’nSAVE and New World supermarkets to use the iconic kiwi-in-the-triangle logo.

The move will swell the number of stores displaying the Buy NZ Made logo by several hundred, providing a clear advantage to manufacturers using the logo on their products.

Foodstuffs (NZ) executive manager Melissa Hodd says country of origin information will also be displayed on all fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood sold in the stores in the New Year, to help customers identify locally-produced goods.

Director of the Buy NZ Made Campaign Samantha Seath says she is delighted to welcome Foodstuffs and looks forward to working with the cooperative as it implements its Buy NZ Made initiatives.

From small beginnings in 1925, the Foodstuffs organisation has grown to become the country's largest grocery distributor and one of New Zealand's largest enterprises – made up of three regionally-based co-operative companies.

Despite its phenomenal growth, Foodstuffs remains 100 per cent New Zealand-owned and operated, with all profits remaining in New Zealand.

Other major Kiwi companies that have joined the Buy NZ Made campaign include Sealord, Kiwi Bank and NZ Van Lines. Membership now extends to 877 manufacturers and 72 retail stores and chains nationally.
