New marketing services manager for iconic hotel

Sales and marketing specialist Cher Knights brings a wealth of experience to her new role as Marketing Services Manager of the world-renowned Hermitage Hotel at Aoraki Mount Cook.

The 38 year old Australian recently moved to New Zealand from Queensland where she worked as Sales and Marketing Manager for large tourism company Sunferries.

Hermitage General Manager Denis Callesen says he is delighted to welcome Cher to the team.

“The official opening of the new Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre later this month makes it the perfect time to bring such a highly skilled person to our team.

“Cher’s strong marketing and business development skills, experience in the tourism industry and in-depth knowledge of the domestic and international markets, particularly Australia, will be invaluable to the ongoing success of the Alpine Centre and The Hermitage.

“Cher’s role is to drive our brand, promote the hotel facilities and integrate the new Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and Glacier Explorers boat trips into Mount Cook’s range of activities. She will also focus on creating innovative strategies to ensure the hotel, centre and region is an essential stop on New Zealand’s tourism map,” says Mr Callesen.

Cher says she’s looking forward to the challenge of her new role and the regular travel between Mount Cook and Queenstown, where she is based.

“I feel really lucky to live and work in two of the most beautiful places in the country. As an Australian, I’m used to long commutes so driving between Queenstown and Mount Cook is a pleasure – the drive is absolutely spectacular.

“After visiting the hotel for the first time with ‘tourist’ eyes, I am convinced that The Hermitage and Mount Cook offers visitors a completely unique and memorable year-round experience, no matter what the weather. The new Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre is fantastic and combined with the hotel’s location, stunning scenery and other activities available like Glacier Explorers, it’s a great product to market.”

The Hermitage Hotel, adjacent Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre and Glacier Explorers are located in Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Village, deep within the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park and World Heritage area. The Village is a spectacular 55km drive from the Lake Pukaki / State Highway 8 turn-off and is four hours from Christchurch (272km) and three hours from Queenstown (330km),
