Symantec Announces 2008 Visionary Award Recipients for Australia and New Zealand
IT Leaders from HealthAlliance NZ and Telstra Win 2008 Visionary Awards

Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the 2008 Visionary Award winners for Australia and New Zealand at Vision + ManageFusion 2008, Symantec’s annual user conference and one of the industry’s leading technology events. The Visionary Awards recognise IT thought leaders for their commitment to IT best practices and innovative use of Symantec products and services to secure and manage their infrastructure and information. The 2008 Visionary Award winners are HealthAlliance NZ and Telstra.

The 2008 Visionary Award winners will be recognised by Symantec’s chief operating officer Enrique Salem and chief technology officer, Mark Bregman following their opening keynotes on Tuesday, August 26 HealthAlliance NZ and Telstra have demonstrated how they have leveraged Symantec solutions and services to help deliver their long-term business goals.

“Today, Australian and New Zealand organisations are required to develop policies and implement technology solutions that improve operational efficiencies, reduce IT costs, meet regulatory requirements and also address environmental concerns,” said Craig Scroggie, vice president, Pacific region, Symantec. “This year’s Visionary Award winners demonstrate how they have effectively leveraged Symantec technology to drive business results, improve productivity and minimise IT risk.”

HealthAlliance Improves Productivity, Lowers Costs & Gains Greater Visibility of IT Assets

Phil Brimacombe, chief information officer at HealthAlliance NZ, a provider of non-clinical health services to the Manukau and Waitemata District Health Boards in New Zealand, is recognised for implementing a series of IT projects that leverage Altiris software technologies and consulting services from Symantec to improve productivity by automating processes and gaining greater visibility of more than 6,400 IT desktops used by approximately 9,000 employees.

With the Altiris Asset Management Solution the time spent manually compiling and maintaining an inventory of IT assets was cut by 60 percent. In addition, using the Altiris Workflow Solution the team also achieved greater automation with IT Service Desk requests and based on the success of the implementation, extended the solution roll-out to include the HR Help Desk.


Telstra Lowers Cost, Reduces Complexity in the Data Centre & Improves Operational Efficiencies

Tom Lamming, transformation and technology, Telstra, Australia’s largest telecommunications provider, is recognised for implementing comprehensive data centre management and enterprise storage solutions to help lower costs and reduce complexity in the data centre while also improving operational efficiencies across the organisation, as part of the Telstra’s five-year IT transformation project.

Technology standardisation is an important piece in Telstra’s IT transformation project. “Telstra has embarked on an aggressive applications and systems decommissioning programme over the five-year transformation period. For example, major legacy billing, sales and marketing, and product applications will be decommissioned as we migrate our customers, services and related data to the new platforms,” said Lamming.

As part of this project, Lamming and his team elected to standardise core components on Symantec Data Centre Foundation software which included the standardisation of backup and recovery technologies on Veritas NetBackup.
