Fuji Xerox Announces New SMARTConnect for Software

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dec. 12, 2008

Fuji Xerox Announces New SMARTConnect for Apeos Software

Fuji Xerox has released new software that allows Apeos Port office MultiFunction Devices (MFDs) to connect seamlessly with Microsoft(r) Office SharePoint(r) Server, creating a further point of distinction for the Fuji Xerox MFD range .

SMARTConnect for Apeos fully bridges the physical and electronic world by making scanned documents fully editable with standard office software. For example, users need only scan a typed letter, and SMARTConnect will convert the hardcopy into a Word(r) document available on the SharePoint Server for editing.

Documents are entered directly into Microsoft Office SharePoint Server from an ApeosPort device via an intuitive user interface. Once at the ApeosPort device, a simple login via keypad or proximity card determines the appropriate level of user security privileges on the SharePoint Server. Users then select the destination for the document, determine the file format and enter any additional metadata or tags. The document is then scanned and stored with an optional audit trail and email confirmation.

The documents can be delivered to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server in a variety of file formats including Word, Excel(r) and Adobe(r) PDF. SMARTConnect for Apeos also has built-in tools that de-skew, rotate and erase edges to ensure the best possible character recognition during the scan-in phase. All scans can be viewed for verification on the device screen before committing the final document to the SharePoint Server.

Fuji Xerox ApeosPort MFDs come equipped with an internal connectivity platform (Apeos IIX) that makes the direct interface with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 possible.

"Integrating our ApeosPort office devices with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server will improve the user experience and ensure they get the most out of their investment in two leading products," says Rod Vickers, solutions product marketing manager, Fuji Xerox. "We've listened to the needs of our customers and will continue to develop new technologies such as SMARTConnect for Apeos that help them work smarter rather then harder."

SMARTConnect is the latest iteration of Fuji Xerox software designed to enhance the use of MFDs in the workplace and transform the way people work, building on the success of Equitrac for Apeos and ApeosWare FlowServices business workflow software.

Support for SMARTConnect is available on a range of ApeosPort II and ApeosPort III devices, and is available immediately from Fuji Xerox throughout New Zealand. Pricing information is available on request.
