Trustpower Chooses Oracle For Major It Infrastructure Upgrade

Electricity retailer and generator TrustPower has contracted with Oracle to undertake a major IT infrastructure upgrade.

The upgrade will cover the systems used by TrustPower for its customer care, billing, and ancillary services, including company financials.

Work on the upgrade has commenced, with a staged implementation scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2010.

"During 2007/08, TrustPower undertook a lengthy review of solution options before selecting Oracle software," says TrustPower's Community Relations Manager, Graeme Purches. "We were impressed with the breadth and depth of the functionality, and the flexibility it offered. As a bonus, we will be completing the project at cost which is actually less than what one of our competitors has allowed for as a contingency for a similar upgrade using alternative software."

Mr Purches says TrustPower does not take investment and changes of this magnitude lightly, but the company recognised an opportunity to "future proof" by using a service oriented IT architecture model.

"The high level of flexibility offered by Oracle will help position TrustPower for the medium and longer term as a retailer that continues to offer the highest level of customer service, with enhanced ability to quickly introduce new and innovative services when required."

Jo-Anne Ruhl, vice president and general manager APAC, Oracle Utilities, says TrustPower is already an acknowledged leader in the New Zealand retail electricity market.

"We commend that achievement, as well as a commitment to a further lifting of industry standards, and we look forward to working with them to achieve that."
