Leading Baggage Handling Specialist, Glidepath, Wins Nashville International Airport Contract
Automated airport baggage and cargo handling specialist, Glidepath, has won the contract to design, manufacture and install a new integrated baggage handling and security screening system at Nashville International Airport in Tennessee.
The NZD60 million security project, due for completion in 2010, could not come at a better time, says Managing Director and founder of the privately owned New Zealand company, Ken Stevens.
“We’ve just doubled the size of our Texas manufacturing plant and are sitting on a very healthy order book including the design, build and installation of a new integrated baggage handling system at Reno-Tahoe International Airport plus a number of other smaller projects. We’re on the cusp of great things in the USA with infrastructure projects and airport security being front of mind with the new Obama administration,” said Mr Stevens, who is also chairman of Export New Zealand.
“The key to winning such work was Glidepath’s on time performance, attention to detail and the ability to partner effectively with key suppliers and contractors.”
Glidepath, which has been operating in the United States for since 1983 will be working alongside architects Gresham, Smith and Partners, one of the key team members of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport upgrade project, and local general contractor, Messer Construction Co., on the Nashville International Airport project.
Mr Stevens
said Glidepath’s supply chain of key providers will also
benefit from new USA project as suppliers of competitively
priced, specialty equipment including baggage weigh scales,
high quality stainless steel panelling and polyurethane
moulding and precision machining.
Glidepath has completed
over 500 airport baggage handling systems in 61 countries
and provides end to end solutions from initial feasibility
studies through to design, manufacture, installation,
operations and maintenance. It also provides integrated
turnkey project management for airport clients.
“Customised service delivery, operationally fit designs, secure control systems and constant innovation are our key competitive advantages,” Mr Stevens said. “We’re continuing to invest heavily in developing world leading technologies that are secure, operationally, energy and labour efficient and also environmentally and ergonomically friendly.“
Glidepath Group is pushing ahead with plans to internationalise its business and is expanding and strengthening its market presence in Australia, China, India, South Africa and the Middle East as well as Mexico and South America.
