With the success of the V8 Supercars series on TV3 last year the network is increasing its commitment to motorsport for 2009 screening live or same day coverage of the Motorsport Series.

All 14 Rounds of the V8 Supercar Races will be broadcast live, or as close to live as possible.TV3 and Event 1 will also produce a 5 Round Motorsport Series beginning in June, which will include classes for NZV8 Utes; Porsche; Production Class Muscle Cars and Pre 65’s.

In addition, TV3 will be screening the ENZED V8 Ute Series; the Fujitsu V8 Series; the Australian V8 Ute Series and V8 Extra.

Summerfield is a highly a regarded sports journalist who is the 2009 recipient of the AA Motoring Excellence Award for Motoring Journalist. He has also twice won the NZ Motor Sport Media TV Award (2006 and 2008), the NZ Motoring Journalists’ Motorsport Award (2007), and the NZ Sports Journalism TV award in 2003.

“I’ve been hooked on Australian Cars since I was 11. There’s something really special about the V8 Supercars, the drivers are good blokes, the racing is close and we’ve got some great Kiwi talent taking it to the Aussies,” he comments.

"Whether it was Brock vs. Johnson; Ambrose vs. Murphy or Tander vs. Whincup, the battles have always been enthralling. I'm thrilled to be able to bring this action to Kiwi sports fans".

“With the V8 Supercars; A1GP; V8 Utes and the 5 Round local series TV3 will be home to New Zealand’s most exciting drivers and racing. I’m a petrol head, that’s pretty much the long and short of it. Whether it’s reporting on motorsport or testing the latest cars, if there are wheels and an engine involved…I’m smiling.”
