Queenstown company attracts Internet guru

A Queenstown company specialising in online marketing and website development has attracted one of the ‘big boys’ of the Internet world.

Sam Tihen, a former software engineer at Yahoo, is now applying his extensive skills and talents at Xebidy Strategic Design in Queenstown. (pronounced Zebidee)

Xebidy director Dan Roberts said Sam brought a whole new level of international experience to the company which specialises in website development, search engine optimisation, internet marketing and Web 2.0 technology.

“Yahoo is the most visited website in the world and most websites use tools from the Yahoo stable without even realising it. Sam has experience in developing and using these tools to their maximum capabilities and is able to apply that expertise across a range of our projects.

“His contribution has already been invaluable to us. He’s been part of the rapid development of an online data wholesale warehouse for 28 Australian tourism companies that will be used by some of the biggest travel agencies in the world."

Mr Roberts believed the company’s culture and range of exciting projects played a key part in securing Sam’s talents but admitted that the Queenstown location certainly helped.

“Sam’s keen on the outdoors with a passion for hiking, camping and canoeing, so Queenstown’s the perfect environment for him to work and play!”

Originally from Missouri in America, Sam’s primary role at Xebidy is the development of new web applications for clients.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me from a work and travel perspective,” he said.

“The team at Xebidy is at the forefront of online solutions so it’s an exciting environment to be working in. To be able to find that in one of the most beautiful and remote parts of the world is brilliant.”
