Unique 1968 Nissan Gloria goes under the hammer

Media Release

Unique 1968 Nissan Gloria goes under the hammer in Christchurch

A rare 1968 Nissan Gloria with only 5,804 miles on the clock and an estimated price of $20,000 will be auctioned at the Turners Classic Car Auction in Christchurch this Saturday.

The amazing motor car is in mint original condition and has spent the last two decades in storage after being retired by its original owner. And it’s the pristine condition of the car that is attracting interest both locally and from Nissan collectors in Japan.

Todd Hunter, Turners spokesperson, is expecting a crowd of 500 car enthusiasts to attend the auction to bid for the Gloria and 30 other lots.

“The Nissan Gloria was bought New Zealand-new - it’s very rare to see a classic car of this age in this condition and with such low mileage” says Todd.

The Classic Auction also features a silver 1973 Mazda Luce GRII (RX4) in excellent condition - down to the plastic covering on door trims. This sought-after model with a 12A rotary engine and 37,441 kilometres on the clock is estimated to sell for $12,000.

Other lots generating interest include a 1971 Chrysler Valient Pacer VH and a 1974 Ford Falcon XY Wagon in red with black accents, with estimated values of $34,000 and $30,000 respectively.

Local Turners Auctioneer Ian Curry says there are a number of original cars ready to drive right off the lot.

“We have an old beauty in a 1961 Morris Minor 1000 with about 54k on the clock. We’re also getting a lot of calls from VW fans about the 1962 Volkswagen Beetle 1200. This bright red car is in immaculate condition” says Ian.

The auction will be held at Turners Auctions, 1 Detroit Place in Christchurch on Saturday 15 August at noon.

Viewings will take place on Friday 14 August 9am till 6pm and Saturday from 9am. The full list of vehicles can be found at www.turners.co.nz
