Need A Nerd Deal With Dick Smith

Need A Nerd Deal With Dick Smith

Fast growing computer and technology support company Need A Nerd announced today that it has signed an exclusive support service agreement with leading technology retailer Dick Smith.

The agreement will see Need A Nerd be Dick Smith’s ‘on the ground’ technology support service in twelve cities throughout New Zealand from mid August 2009.

Need A Nerd’s Nerd Creator Adam Dunkerley said the strategic move is due to more consumers embracing technology but struggling to set up and maintain it.

“The technology sector is increasingly converging with the integration of computers, communication, home entertainment / automation and security.

“While users have increased access to technology through lower pricing, they are increasingly experiencing difficulty setting up, using, and solving issues when they arise.

“They also don’t have the time to get technology up and running and want to get it set up right the first time,” Mr Dunkerley said.

Need A Nerd will provide an onsite technology advice, installation, fault repair and training service initially in Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo, Hawkes Bay, Gisborne, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Levin, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill.

A common problem for consumers is poor post purchase support. Mr Dunkerley said this issue has been acknowledged by Dick Smith and is seen as a point of difference for the technology retailer in the face of competition.

“Technology users are frustrated with post purchase support and we (Need A Nerd and Dick Smith) are working together to address all of these issues with a specialised onsite computer and technology support service.

“A key finding so far has been that consumers are only using a small percentage of an IT product’s capability and we can now show them how to get the best value from their purchase.

The strategic move has provided Need A Nerd with the confidence to grow nationally both through new franchisees and company owned operations. As the Nerds head for national domination, consumers and small to medium enterprises in other towns and cities will also benefit as national coverage grows.

“We have strengthened the Need A Nerd opportunity for new franchisees as now there will be guaranteed job volumes from day 1. This has had a very positive impact on the level of enquiries we are receiving for new franchises and we are well down the track in negotiations for new territories. That said there are still a number of aῲeas available for franchisee startups if people are interested in this exciting opportunity.

To further attract franchisees Need A Nerd offers a $2,500 finder’s fee.

Despite the economic slowdown Mr Dunkerley says demand is strong for their services due to households and small and medium enterprises being reliant on computers to communicate and complete everyday tasks.

“Computers are now a must have rather than a want.”
