2degrees offers free calls to Samoa and Tonga

AUCKLAND – 1 October 2009

2degrees offers free calls until October 15, 2009 to Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga

2degrees today announced it would be offering free calls up to a 5 minute cap from its New Zealand network to the countries that have been hardest hit by the recent tsunami in the Pacific.

2degrees customers can make calls for free starting today, October 1st from midday until October 15, to Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.

Eric Hertz, 2degrees chief executive officer says, “We recognise that there will be many people trying to contact their friends and loved ones as a result of the tsunami. We want to do what we can to help and we feel that this is the best way to do it.

“Communication is a lifeline, a link to family and friends. It’s a horrible being away from your family and loved ones during a crisis and 2degrees wants to offer people the opportunity to find some piece of mind.

“We have put a 5 minute cap on the duration of the calls to ensure that everyone can have access to the service. All we ask is that people limit their time on calls so thateveryone who wants to make a call can get through”, said Mr Hertz.

Those people without a 2degrees phone or SIM card can purchase them at the following outlets: Dick Smith Electronics, Warehouse Stationery, Pak & Save, New World, Foodtown, Countdown, Woolworths, Shell, Mobil, BP and other independently owned petrol stations served by Red Circle, along with Gilmours, Toops and Trents.
