McMahon takes up reins as RICS New Zealand Chair

Alan McMahon B.Sc.(Hons), FRICS, MPINZ, AREINZ has been appointed by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Oceania Board as the new Chair of RICS New Zealand.

The appointment is effective immediately and due to last for a minimum of one year.

Key responsibilities of the role are to promote the growth of the organisation in New Zealand through further recognition of RICS standards, qualifications and research in both the private and public sectors, and to provide business and networking opportunities for its 800+ New Zealand members.

McMahon, who is also the Director of Research and Consulting for Colliers International New Zealand, replaces John Cameron of Jones Lang LaSalle, who held the role for four years. McMahon’s first duties in his new role will be to chair the RICS New Zealand Board meeting, which will be held on 4 August. He said: “The unique aspect of the RICS is that it straddles all land and property industry sectors from land surveying to quantiy surveying to property funds management. We aim to ensure our members take advantage of all the benefits open to them, from networking with other professionals in related fields, to accessing world class research”.

Cameron said: “I am stepping down after four years as Chairman RICS New Zealand as I believe my goals for the advancement and recognition of the RICS in New Zealand have been achieved. I am very confident the RICS will prosper under Alan’s guidance.”

RICS Oceania Director Kaye Herald said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of a high profile industry leader to head our growth in new Zealand. Alan’s broad experience and extensive connections are just what we need.”
