Extra Jetstar flights welcomed by Christchurch
Airport
“The announcement that Jetstar is
putting on three extra flights a day from Christchurch is
welcome news,” said Christchurch International Airport
Chief Executive Jim Boult. “It helps replace the flights
lost from Pacific Blue’s withdrawal from the domestic
market, and provides an extra boost for our tourism
industry.”
Jetstar is further developing its domestic
flights by providing 717,000 extra annual seats for New
Zealand routes, which will give it nearly 20% of the
domestic market.
“The additional aircraft will be based
at Christchurch Airport, which has been Jetstar’s base
since the inception of its New Zealand operation,” said
Jim Boult.
“In light of the earthquake, it’s
wonderful to get good news like this, which supports the
ongoing growth of tourism in our region. We invite people to
come visit the region - there’s great snow at the local
ski-fields and key attractions in Canterbury are open,”
said Jim Boult. 99% of all tourism operators in
Christchurch are now fully functional and they are preparing
for an influx of visitors during the upcoming school
holidays.

Gordon Campbell: On the Budget’s Spreadsheet Victories
It wasn’t as if expectations were sky high, exactly. Chances are, it was always more likely that we’d be seeing Bigfoot rampage through the Beehive lock-up than catch a glimpse of a credible growth agenda from this government. More >>

Greexit, Eurogeddon... watch out... flight to quality and all that. Follow your instincts. The NZ Debt Management Office has been so surprised at the unprecedentedly low interest rates that it can borrow at that it has already entirely pre-funded the 2013 fiscal deficit - all $8 billion of it! Pattrick Smellie Comment: Doddling along the best we can hope forCriticising Budgets for lacking vision or imagination is like shooting fish in a barrel, but even so, this year's Budget again feels like a missed opportunity. Perhaps it's the intrusion of real world needs that means the government couldn't make better political use of the $558.8 million it expects to gather in its first partial asset sale. More >>
