KiwiRail chooses Motovated for new bogie
KiwiRail chooses Motovated Design & Analysis to engineer their innovative new bogie.
Christchurch New Zealand: Motovated Design and Analysis has secured significant rail industry orders over the past year, one of which is the design and analysis of KiwiRail’s P13 Bogie for their new AK passenger carriages.
Allan Cannell of KiwiRail Mechanical Design Group says, “KiwiRail chose Motovated to assist in the design of our new, smooth riding, railway passenger bogie, which is part of a significant project to provide a modern passenger experience for our South Island scenic trains. Motovated is NZ-owned, and it has a definite ethic to support local industry. They are highly customer-focussed and all staff members are very responsive. Great value!”
The new P13 bogie will be used on the TranzScenic and TranzAlpine scenic rail services, and is intended to support current as well as new carriages. Motovated is working closely with KiwiRail’s Mechanical Design Group and KiwiRail’s Hillside Engineering workshops. This KiwiRail work is good news for the mechanical engineering sector of NZ, which saw little investment during the economic downturn in comparison to the civil engineering sector. These large rail orders will help provide for asset expansion and rejuvenation, jobs and ongoing investments in local economies.

It is important that KiwiRail is looking locally to provide new rail assets, as well as helping to extend the life of current rail assets; providing local jobs and helping to keep rail knowledge within New Zealand.”
Motovated has also secured another significant rail order with Global Locomotive. This order encompassed the design and analysis of a containerised solution for the re-powering of older locomotives, and was detailed in a press release dated 14 May 2010.
