Murray Crane Appoints Karl Clausen as GM of Crane Brothers

Murray Crane Appoints Karl Clausen as General Manager of Crane Brothers

Auckland, February, 2011 – Murray Crane has appointed Karl Clausen as the first General Manager of contemporary tailors, Crane Brothers.

Like Murray Crane, Clausen is originally Made in New Zealand, a Southern-born gentleman cultured in the finest fashion houses in London and now returning home to make his mark. Clausen has been appointed to oversee the day-to-day management of the business and to realise the next crucial phase of Crane Brothers.

“Crane Brothers always adds our contemporary twist to the classic cut,” says Murray Crane. “And Karl represents those qualities. He combines the old with the new by balancing modern business acumen with a refined approach to men’s tailoring. And Karl and I very much share the same aesthetic.”

Crane had no hesitation in appointing Clausen whose experience spans more than two decades in men’s retailing. Clausen began his career at Sergios Menswear and later Working Style Group in Christchurch, before moving to London to work at Ermenegildo Zegna’s flagship store on New Bond Street.

Clausen’s most recent role was as Head of Bespoke at Alfred Dunhill’s iconic Bourdon House in Mayfair, London. The diamond in the crown of Alfred Dunhill’s empire, Bourdon House is a Victorian townhouse originally owned by the Duke of Westminster, which boasts a private club, barber shop, day spa, two floors of retail product and an exclusive custom and bespoke room. In the two and half years that Clausen held the role Bourdon House became a revered international retail destination.

“Crane Brothers represents the finest quality tailoring experience in New Zealand,” says Clausen. “It is, and always has been, in a class all of its own. So it’s a privilege to carry on its strong traditions and I’m also looking forward to applying the experience, knowledge and craft I’ve gained over the years to push forward this dynamic business.”

Clausen’s responsibilities will include overseeing the latest version of Crane Brother’s new website. Officially launched this March it will deliver finely tailored suits to anyone in the world, whether in Paris, London, New York or Milan. Good news for Crane Brother customers around the world.
