Ranking 3/11: Sites whose visitors have high Internet usage

Nielsen Market Intelligence ranking March 2011 - Websites whose visitors have high Internet usage

Please find attached a website ranking of the ten channels in Nielsen Market Intelligence NZ domestic traffic that attract the highest percentage of people who use the Internet for 20 hours or more per week, for the month of March 2011*.

The rankings do not show which websites have the actual highest traffic numbers (i.e. total number of unique browsers) of this demographic, but instead show which sites have the highest percentage of their traffic consisting of people who say they use the Internet for 20 hours or more per week, for the month of March. For example, publicaddress.net is the number one ranking because 39.2% of its unique browsers meet the demographic requirement, but their total number of matched unique browsers equals 6,374. Gameplanet.co.nz on the other hand, in fifth place, has 36.5% of its unique browsers that meet the demographic requirement but their total number of matched unique browsers equals a high 26,117.

To put these numbers into perspective, the proportion of New Zealand Internet users who say they use the internet for 20 hours or more per week is currently 20.6%.

Demographic segmentation of website traffic can be an incredibly useful tool for marketers. Being able to identify what websites are dominated by which particular demographic can allow marketers to better target their advertising and promotions, resulting in better lead generation and lower overall cost.
