KPMG Launch “Inside the Business of the Rugby World Cup”

On the eve of 100 days until the Rugby World Cup kicks off in Auckland, KPMG today announced their “Inside the business of Rugby World Cup 2011” campaign as Official Supplier of Accountancy Services and Tax Advisory.

As part of the annual KPMG tax briefing, held at Sky City, KPMG outlined their role with Rugby World Cup Limited which has grown since the company became involved with the tournament at the bid stage in 2005.

The event included a speech by the Prime Minister who expressed his excitement about the forthcoming tournament. Addressing the 1070 delegates, Rt. Hon. John Key looked ahead to the tournament which will be attended by 85,000 overseas visitors, generate $2bn worth of economic stimulation and host over 1,000 events all showcasing New Zealand. The Prime Minister also explained that recent research relating to the 2005 British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand suggests that the economic stimulation from the tournament will be greater than expected.

Also speaking at the conference was Jan Dawson, CEO and Chairman of KPMG New Zealand. Welcoming the forum, she highlighted the role KPMG plays in the tournament. She said, “This has been an extremely volatile year, from the devastating earthquake in Christchurch to the performance of the New Zealand dollar. At KPMG we deal with volatility in the business environment all the time and it is our role to help our clients understand and cut through the complexity in business, in New Zealand and globally.”
