Update on Jetstar NZ and AUS Services: Volcanic Ash June 15

Update on Jetstar New Zealand and Australian Services: Puyehue-Cordon Caulle Volcano

MELBOURNE, Australia, June 15 /Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --

Jetstar wishes to provide a further update (as at 1200 AEST / 1400 NZ) on its Australian and New Zealand services (Trans Tasman and domestic) as a result of a volcanic ash cloud caused by Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano in Chile.

The safety of our passengers, our people and our operations is always Jetstar's number one priority.

Our approach to flying is based on the Qantas Group's high standards of safety and risk assessment.

Jetstar will not be flying into airspace that remains affected by the ash cloud until we are confident that it is safe to do so.

As a Qantas Group airline, Jetstar like Qantas has in place the same monitoring and assessment processes and Jetstar continues to review the status of its operations to affected ports.

We are committed to safe operations and are seeking to minimize the disruption caused to our customers during this difficult time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

NEW ZEALAND
Jetstar New Zealand Trans Tasman, domestic New Zealand services are cancelled for the remainder of today – Wednesday 15 June. An update on the status of tomorrow’s services (Thursday 16 June) will be provided this evening.

This update will include the status of this evening's scheduled departure Singapore-Auckland return A330 service (JQ 2401 and JQ2402).

PERTH
Today's Jetstar domestic flights to/from Perth are cancelled from 1300 (Perth time). An update on Thursday 16 June services will be provided by this evening.

TASMANIA
Domestic flights to and from Tasmania are cancelled for the remainder of today – Wednesday 15 June. An update on the status of tomorrow’s services (Thursday 16 June) will be provided this evening.

OUR CUSTOMERS
We encourage our customers to continue to check Jetstar.com for updates on our services, and we will endeavour to keep passengers informed about their recovery flights as soon as we possibly can.

We continue to review the situation and should future flights be affected we will notify passengers directly.

Jetstar is liaising with affected passengers and offering them the following options free of charge:

* Defer travel: Customers may defer travel. Travel must be completed by 31 August 2011
* Re-routing to get passengers to their end destination. Travel must be completed by 31 August 2011
* Full refund or voucher to the value of the booking.

How to keep informed:
Booked Jetstar customers can check the status of their flight under the 'Flight Status' section of Jetstar.com. If customers have pre-registered their mobile phone number with our airline (at the time of booking), Jetstar will inform you via SMS to that mobile phone of any new Jetstar service that comes on line or any further flight cancellations.

Jetstar.com will continue to carry a full list of daily cancellations, as well as list new services, until the resumption of normal services across our network.

Media: Quickflix welcomes probe of Sky TV content deals
ASX-listed Quickflix has welcomed the New Zealand antitrust regulator's probe into Sky Network Television's content deals with internet service providers, saying the issues raised by the Commerce Commission are "serious and real."

Sky's shares sank 8.3 percent to a two-and-a-half month low $5 after the regulator said it will investigate the pay-TV operator's contracts with ISPs and potential barriers to accessing content. The announcement was made after the commission approved a joint venture between Sky and state-owned Television New Zealand to launch a budget pay-TV platform, Igloo.More >>

Fruit FlyMPI: No Fruit Fly Outbreak Detected to Date as Actions Continue
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) reports that testing on samples from fruit fly traps in the Auckland Controlled Area has so far shown no sign of further fruit flies.

However as a precautionary measure, the Ministry continues a large field effort to ensure that if any of the pest insects are present, they are not able to spread from the Avondale area where the one male fly was found last week.
