Telecom And Motorola Mobility Redefine New Zealanders’ Tablet Experience With XOOM™

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – 13 July 2011 – Motorola Mobility, Inc. has teamed up with Telecom NZ to launch the award-winning Motorola XOOM™ tablet in New Zealand. The Motorola XOOM on Telecom NZ’s super-fast XT smartphone network will provide a blazingly fast internet tablet experience like no other. Motorola XOOM is built on the Android™ 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform and features a 1GHz dual-core processor, front and rear-facing cameras and true multi-tasking as well as support for Adobe® Flash® 10.2 for watching video on the web and more.

Motorola XOOM will launch at a recommended retail price (RRP) of NZ $1,149 and will be available online at the Telecom Mobile Store or through Telecom stores and dealers from July 14, 2011. The tablet will be exclusive to Telecom NZ and on the XT network.

Motorola XOOM Features – a new mobile experience

Motorola XOOM delivers exceptionally fast performance with its 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The tablet showcases the innovative Android 3.0 Honeycomb user experience – including an interactive, customisable homescreen with moveable widgets, notifications and tabbed browsing.

The 10.1-inch 1280x800 widescreen HD display enables video content that’s richer and clearer than ever before. Support for HDMI enables viewing of videos and movies on larger screens, like your own HD television. A 5MP rear-facing camera captures HD video, and a 2MP front-facing camera enables clear video chats using Google Talk™.

The latest Google Mobile services include Google Maps™ 5.0 with 3D interaction and access to over 200,000 apps from Android Market™. Motorola XOOM also supports a beta version of Adobe® Flash® Player 10.2 downloadable from Android Market, enabling delivery of rich Flash-based web content including videos, casual games and rich internet applications.

Media: Quickflix welcomes probe of Sky TV content deals
ASX-listed Quickflix has welcomed the New Zealand antitrust regulator's probe into Sky Network Television's content deals with internet service providers, saying the issues raised by the Commerce Commission are "serious and real."

Sky's shares sank 8.3 percent to a two-and-a-half month low $5 after the regulator said it will investigate the pay-TV operator's contracts with ISPs and potential barriers to accessing content. The announcement was made after the commission approved a joint venture between Sky and state-owned Television New Zealand to launch a budget pay-TV platform, Igloo.More >>

Fruit FlyMPI: No Fruit Fly Outbreak Detected to Date as Actions Continue
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) reports that testing on samples from fruit fly traps in the Auckland Controlled Area has so far shown no sign of further fruit flies.
