Air NZ says Blenheim man died in accident at Safe Air unit

Aug. 8 (BusinessDesk) – Air New Zealand Ltd. says an engineer at its Safe Air maintenance unit died in an accident.

The 51-year-old Blenheim man died “during a routine maintenance operation at its base in Blenheim,” the airline said in a statement.
Safe Air continues to work with Police and the Department of Labour on the investigation, it said.

Chief executive Rob Fyfe and general manager technical operations Vanessa Stoddart are travelling to Blenheim to offer moral support, it said.

Shares of Air NZ fell 4.5% to $1.06, outpacing a 3% drop in the benchmark NZX 50 Index.
