Respected figure in wood industry passes away

The Wood Council of New Zealand today marked the passing of Brice Landman, member of the Wood Council and Chief Executive of Carter Holt Harvey Pulp & Paper.

Mr Landman passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday the 22nd September 2011.

"Brice was highly esteemed person involved in the Wood Processing industry, and has had significant influence on industry developments throughout his career" said Doug Ducker, chair of the Wood Council.

"His knowledge and advice was both keenly sought and provided. We are truly grateful for his contribution over the years, and all share in regret at his passing".

Mr Landman was involved in leading both his company and the industry as a whole through a turbulent time of change in the pulp and paper industry Before returning to New Zealand, he was also chief executive of UK Paper.

His passing was also marked by the Wood Processors Association, on whose board Mr Landman also served. Chair Mark Hansen said "Brice will be sorely missed on the WPA board, both as an active industry participant, but also as a man we all shared a great respect for".

Forest Owners Association President Peter Berg expressed sadness at his passing, describing Mr Landman as "a big man who made a valuable contribution to forest industry matters and was prepared to be involved. His ability to lighten things up from time to time was also appreciated".

The industry collectively shares sympathy with both his family and his staff.

Mr Landman's funeral will be held at 1.30pm on September 30 at the Founders Chapel of Remembrance, Rickit Street, Taupo.
