Airborne Geophysical Survey Data Sets Released

Airborne Geophysical Survey Data Sets Released
To the Public And Scientific Community

All data from Glass Earth Gold’s aerial geophysical survey of Otago has now been fully released so the scientific community and general public can benefit from the rich information found in the $5 million project, Glass Earth Gold CEO Simon Henderson said today.

Glass Earth has flown two of New Zealand’s largest airborne geophysical surveys covering the Central Volcanic region in 2005 and the Otago region in 2007

“The enormous data sets from these surveys have been progressively released and are now fully available to the scientific communities and general public for further analysis and interrogation’’, Mr Henderson said.

The Central Volcanic region and Otago region surveys flying costs alone were approximately $6m. This included a significant contribution from the Otago Regional Council (“ORC”), which allowed for better coverage and density of data sets in the Otago survey.

The ORC was supplied with complete copies of the Otago data sets upon completion of the survey as part of this arrangement.

“Surveys of this nature are the way of the future in terms of understanding the underlying geology over large areas and have been successfully carried out in several states in Australia”, Mr Henderson said.

Surveying is underway by various local authorities to carry out similar surveys in Northland and the West Coast of the South Island. Glass Earth, as a pioneer of this approach in New Zealand, supports this development.’’
