Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner finalist in best workplace award

27 October 2011
Media release

The Office of the Electricity and Gas Complaints Commissioner (EGCC) is a finalist in the JRA Best Workplaces Survey for 2011. The survey is New Zealand’s largest workplace climate and employee engagement survey.

JRA surveys the employees of participating businesses and names finalists in four categories based on the size of the organisations. The EGCC is one of ten finalists in the small workplace category (20 to 49 employees).

“Our core business is resolving complaints about electricity and gas companies,” Commissioner Judi Jones said. “People might think dealing with complaints wouldn’t make for a good workplace, but our results tell another story.”

“We focus on providing a fair and independent process,” Ms Jones said. “It is rewarding to work with both parties and get complaints settled.”

“Fairness and independence are also part of the culture within the office – we accept our differences, and we have fun together.”

“We’ve been taking part in the survey for seven years, but this is the first year we’ve had enough employees to be in the competition,” Commissioner Judi Jones said.

“We’ve had increasingly positive results over the years, and it’s great the trend has continued as the office has grown. The survey took place in one of the busiest periods in the history of the Scheme, showing we continued to enjoy coming to work at a time of heavy workloads,” Ms Jones said.

The winners will be announced at a dinner in Auckland on Thursday 17 November.
