Women in business inspired to turn their dreams into results

Sarah Wilson, an Adventure Coach describes herself as an “ordinary woman from Waikanae” who has faced adversity as a Melanoma survivor when early detection of a malignant melanoma in 1999 saved her life. She has taken on extraordinary challenges and wants to make a difference by inspiring others to go for their dreams and to think big through her business of adventure coaching.

Sarah spoke to Women in Business on Wednesday 26 October about her life and motivations. Of recent note she trekked to Everest Base Camp this year and she is on track to climb to the summit of Everest in 2012! She also talked about an incredible journey, called “Cook to Cook" that she is about to embark on during November. It is an ambitious adventure where a small team will climb Mount Cook then cycle up the South Island to Picton and then kayak across Cook Strait. This adventure will raise money for the Melanoma Foundation and can be followed on Facebook here.)

Women in Business Chair Jane Stevenson said “she was inspired and impressed with Sarah’s messages of self-belief and commitment to follow through and this resonated with everyone on the night. As a Committee we have decided to get right behind Sarah and to support the Melanoma Foundation so our next event will be held on Wednesday 14 December which will be a charity auction. The event will be open to all businesses as it is our desire to have some fun while raising money for a truly good cause. Eddie Winkel has agreed to be our Auctioneer so we know from the start that we are in good hands.” Any business wanting to donate an item to be auctioned should get hold of Jane with details, jane@kapitilaw.co.nz

The Woman in Business network is a joint initiative between the Kapiti Coast Chamber of Commerce and the district’s Economic Development Agency – Nature Coast Enterprise. The network is open to all women in the Kapiti and Horowhenua region, who have their own business, or are either contractors or employed.
