Glidepath secures contract at Penang Airport

Glidepath secures contract to expand the checked bag security facility at Penang Inernational Airport

Glidepath, the global provider of airport baggage handling and security systems, has secured a technology solutions contract to expand the checked bag security facility at Penang International Airport in Malaysia. The airport is situated in the Bayan Lepas area of Penang, Malaysia and serves as the main airport for the northern region of Malaysia.

The project, which involves the installation of a 100% fail-safe inline baggage security screening system, provides for future capacity increase as the Airport, which is serving a growing number of airlines, grows its passenger enplanements.

As part of the project, Glidepath will replace the existing check-in conveyor system, which is 15 years old and originally provided by Glidepath.

Sir Ken Stevens, Chairman and founder of the Glidepath Group remarked that Glidepath was proud to continue the bi-lateral cooperation between Malaysia and New Zealand governments, its companies and its people involving the upgrade of Malaysia’s Airport systems and in particular Penang International Airport which is a repeat project for Glidepath.

“This project continues Glidepath’s history of 27 such systems in Malaysia since the early 80’s,” said Sir Ken Stevens. “The close and friendly cooperation of Malaysia and New Zealand peoples dates back to the Colombo Plan days of the 60’s and 70’s when many outstanding Malaysian students were educated in New Zealand.”

Glidepath secured the 9 month duration project contract in early September. Incorporating a 30 day operational shakedown period, the project has a final handover date of 1 July, 2012.
