RBNZ Governor Bollard reported to be stepping down in
September
Jan. 27 (BusinessDesk) - Reserve Bank of
New Zealand Governor Alan Bollard is reported to be planning
to step down when his term ends in September, according to
the National Business Review.
The NBR says an announcement
will be made in coming days, without attributing a source.
Bollard is a previous secretary to the Treasury who was
appointed as governor in September 2002.
A Reserve Bank
spokeswoman declined to comment on the report, as did the
central bank’s chairman Arthur Grimes, who is on
holiday.
Bollard is an economist who also led the New
Zealand Commerce Commission.
He published a book last year
on his experience as central bank governor during the global
financial crisis.
In interviews he talked about dealing
with stress and the changing faces at meetings of central
bankers.
He is married to Venture Capitalist Jenny Morel
and they have two sons, Albert and Lewis.
He is a keen
amateur artist and one of his pictures is of a mountain
range near Jackson Hole in Wyoming where central bankers
meet annually.
Bollard gave a speech in Christchurch
today.

The NZ Debt Management Office has been so surprised at the unprecedentedly low interest rates that it can borrow at that it has already entirely pre-funded the 2013 fiscal deficit - all $8 billion of it! Pattrick Smellie Comment: Doddling along the best we can hope forCriticising Budgets for lacking vision or imagination is like shooting fish in a barrel, but even so, this year's Budget again feels like a missed opportunity. Perhaps it's the intrusion of real world needs that means the government couldn't make better political use of the $558.8 million it expects to gather in its first partial asset sale. More >>
