Independent Members of Investment Company Transition Board Appointed

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has appointed three independent members to the transition board set up to establish a new investment company for the organisation.

The company will manage some of HBRC’s larger and future investments in infrastructure around the region, including HBRC’s interests in future potential investments such as the Ruataniwha Water Storage Project, currently in the feasibility stage.

The three independent members appointed to the seven-person transitional board are Jim Scotland, Sam Robinson and Andy Pearce.

The four other members are Council Chief Executive Andrew Newman as an ex-officio member and its Chief Executive and Managing Director, Council Chairman Fenton Wilson and Councillors Christine Scott and Alan Dick.

The company’s full board will be appointed by 31 December 2013.

Jim Scotland
Jim is an experienced company director with widespread interests. He is chairman of the Port of Napier and 3R Group. He is also a director of Hawke’s Bay Airport, Plant & Food Research and Seeka Kiwifruit Industries and other private companies. Jim is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Sam Robinson
Sam Robinson is a well known Hawke’s Bay sheep and beef farmer, who is highly acknowledged farming leader. He is Chairman of AgResearch and a board member of AsureQuality. He was Chairman of Richmond Ltd before its acquisition by PPCS (now Silver Fern Farms), and has been a member of the Prime Minister's Growth and Innovation Advisory Board and the Government's Food & Beverage Task Force. He is chairman of the Ruataniwha Water Storage Project Leadership Team.

Andy Pearce
Andy Pearce is a specialist executive and director in technology and knowledge-intensive businesses. He is a director of Christchurch City Holdings, which is the largest infrastructure investor in the South Island, is Chairman of the Regional Committee of the Canterbury Water Management Strategy, and is a director of the Bank of New Zealand. He was the founding Chief Executive of Landcare Research and has broad governance and management experience, with a deep interest and knowledge of the sustainable management and use of water and energy resources.
