Local Community Groups and Charities Raise More Than $19,500 Thanks To Bayfair Shoppers

The spirit of giving well and truly descended on Bayfair over the festive season, as shoppers opened their wallets to get local community groups and charities off to a good start in 2012. More than $19,500 was raised through gift-wrapping donations, Scene to Believe photo packages, and the Waipuna Hospice Trees of Remembrance.

The community groups and charities benefiting from the generosity of Bayfair shoppers include Waipuna Hospice, SPCA Tauranga, Bay of Plenty DHB adolescent rooms, Arataki Kindergarten, Autism New Zealand Bay of Plenty Branch, Golden Sands School, Multiple Sclerosis Society Bay of Plenty, Air Training Corps, Tauranga Equestrian Therapy Centre, Papamoa Scouts, Cystic Fibrosis, Child Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer Support Services Tauranga, St John New Zealand, Homes of Hope and The Salvation Army.

“The team at Bayfair is delighted by this generosity and would like to thank shoppers for getting behind these local causes,” says Bayfair marketing manager Nina Rivett. “All of the groups and charities deserve a lot of credit for the important work that they do in our local community and Bayfair is thrilled to give its support.”

Waipuna Hospice fundraising manager Trish Rae said the money raised from the Christmas Remembrance Tree Appeal would contribute to the provision of its service in helping to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families.

“We are delighted with the outcome of our presence at Bayfair. The campaign was well received by shoppers and we would like to thank them for their generosity. We would also like to extend our thanks to the management team at Bayfair for their support.”

Waipuna Hospice provides specialist medical and nursing care for patients with a life-ending illness and offers a range of support services to patients and their families across the Bay of Plenty.

In return for a small donation, the Christmas Remembrance Tree Appeal gives people the opportunity to write a personal message to a loved one they have lost or to someone special who is not with them at Christmas, then attach it to bauble and hang it on a tree. After Christmas, the personal messages are placed in a specially woven kete, blessed and placed under the Remembrance Tree on the Waipuna Hospice grounds.
