New Chief Executive appointed to GirlGuiding NZ

Susan Coleman has been appointed as the new Chief Executive at GirlGuiding New Zealand (NZ) from 19 March 2012.

Ms Coleman was previously Executive Manager, Community Services, at Nelson City Council and says she is excited about joining the team at GirlGuiding NZ.

“I was born in Canterbury and lived about 30 years in Christchurch. As a Brownie and Guide as well as Brownie and Guide leader there, I have wonderful memories of my time, including doing my camping badge at Cracroft House where the National office is now based,” said Susan.

Although Susan said she was not actively looking for a career change, she was motivated to apply for the position by GirlGuiding NZ’s vision.

“I was motivated by their vision that all girls and young women in every community are inspired and empowered to turn dreams into reality.”

“I am very much looking forward to being part of GirlGuiding NZ and continuing the work towards making this vision a reality.”

While at the Nelson City Council, Susan worked extensively within the community, including leading the Community Services Division with about 80 staff. One highlight of her time there was introducing harm reduction initiatives for young people at New Year.

Although GirlGuiding NZ’s national office is in Christchurch, Susan will be based in Nelson.

“Her role will require her to travel extensively around New Zealand as she works with the National staff team, the National Board and the volunteers who make up our organisation,” said Sonia Faulkner, National President of GirlGuiding NZ.

“We are looking forward to working with Susan,” she said.

Pattrick Smellie Comment: Doddling along the best we can hope forCriticising Budgets for lacking vision or imagination is like shooting fish in a barrel, but even so, this year's Budget again feels like a missed opportunity. Perhaps it's the intrusion of real world needs that means the government couldn't make better political use of the $558.8 million it expects to gather in its first partial asset sale. More >>
