NZICT makes changes to better reflect and represent technology sector

NZICT has voted in changes that will ensure that it better represents and services the fast-changing ICT and technology industry of New Zealand.

Attendees at the NZICT Special General Meeting (SGM) held last night in Auckland voted unanimously for broadening the objective of NZICT to include high technology companies and other organisations involved with and supporting the broader NZ technology ecosystem.

Further changes to the Constitution supported wider representation of members through changes in Board representation, enabling all voting members to have a say on the makeup of the Board and broadening membership categories to allow for start-ups and universities for example. Preferential voting rights for the large, Tier 1, members have been removed.

This important shift in the constitution is a key milestone that reflects the progression and maturity of NZICT, says NZICT Chair Bennett Medary.

“The changes to our strategic focus are essentially a reflection of the dynamic and fast-changing industry that we represent. They will positively impact on our aspirations for a Digital NZ. We have focused our strategic priorities on increasing ICT exports, improving NZ productivity and efficiency through the use of technology, enabling e-government and nurturing skills and talent” he says.

“NZICT will improve collaboration by reaching out across the industry ecosystem to include companies of all sizes across the technology sector, as well as incubators, government agencies, educators and other tech focused service providers.” says Medary.

“This is a very positive outcome for the industry and NZICT as it will mean that we have greater representation, more industry and Government collaboration and more pervasive board representation,” says NZICT CEO Candace Kinser.

“With the convergence in smart devices, consumerism, hi-tech manufacturing, and bioinformatics and the burgeoning gaming and digital content sectors becoming leaders for the country, our industry is rapidly growing and redefining itself. These changes will help NZICT move forward and grasp the opportunities of the future,” says Kinser.
