Canterbury Solar Business Ray Of Sunshine For Lyttelton Main

News release
April 2012

Canterbury Solar Business Ray Of Sunshine For Lyttelton Main School

Christchurch-based Canterbury Power Solutions has developed an impressive portfolio of clever alternative energy solutions in recent years and have just finalised a contract to help earthquake-hit Lyttelton Main School.

It’s no secret that Lyttelton was hit hard by the quakes throughout 2010 and 2011 and institutions such Lyttelton Main School, on Oxford St. in Lyttelton, are seizing the opportunity to embrace smart energy solutions for their repairs and development.

The school recently won a regional competition in which they had to put forward clean energy ideas and won a $50,000 grant from Yealands Estate for environmentally friendly initiatives. They have opted to use a significant portion of the grant for CPS’s 42 panel, 9 Kw solar energy system.

There’ll be a direct educational benefit too, as the children will be able to see smart, clean energy production at first-hand as they monitor real-time energy output and sunshine data from computers at the school. Coupled with this, our future Kiwi energy consumers will be receiving early training to make smart energy choices and reduce NZ’s carbon footprint.

CPS is providing the scheme to the school at a reduced rate, and Christchurch-based Enasolar - manufacturer and exporter worldwide of inverter technology that converts the sun’s energy into useable AC current - is donating 3 of their inverters, valued at around $7.5k to get the school up and running. CPS will also be making a $250 donation to the school’s operating fund for every subsequent solar installation carried out for customers connected with the school.

Murray Marquet, Director at CPS, said: ‘It’s really uplifting for us to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the choices our schools and kids are making, post the earthquakes. Similar contracts are being won by large corporates and internationals, but we are a small Canterbury family-owned and operated business working hard at making a big difference to energy consumption across the South Island.’

After February 11’s quake, CPS made a significant donation of the proceeds of every job they undertook to the Earthquake Relief Fund.
