Payment issue largely resolved

Payments NZ said this afternoon that the network issue which had affected the Swift payments gateway had been largely resolved.

The system used to transfer files between banks experienced a glitch overnight, resulting in many customers not receiving payments. The error was noticed at 2am and banking staff worked overnight and throughout much of ANZAC day to ensure that payments went through.

Payments NZ CEO Steve Nichols said that thanks to the work of technicians, most payments were now through.

“Every bank customer except for HSBC and Citibank should have received all payments owing. HSBC and Citibank customers should expect their payments through by tomorrow.”

Mr Nichols said that staff were still working to isolate the cause of the error.
