New Mata store means more fertiliser choice for Northland

Northland farmers now have more choice and better service when it comes to choosing fertiliser after last night’s opening of a new storage facility in Mata just south of Whangarei.

The new 3,200 sq metre bulk store was opened last night with over 280 local farmers, spreaders and transporters attending the opening event.

“Northland is an important farming region and farmers face particular challenges in terms of soil and climate conditions. So access to quality fertiliser and lime should be fast and easy,” said Bill McLeod, Chairman at Ravensdown. “Blends should be mixed accurately to minimise waiting times. Loading should be safe and accurate. By designing the layout and investing in dedicated machinery, we’re expecting a significant impact on improving the turnaround times on the Mata site,” added Bill.

The new bulk store is being constructed with NZ-sourced laminate veneer lumber which is not susceptible to corrosion and will cut maintenance costs. The bulk and bag store is clad with fibreglass-reinforced polyester sheeting which comes with a 20-year guarantee.

The purpose-built Mata store is on land owned by Ravensdown, so can accommodate expansion if needed. The facility currently employs three full-time staff.

“We’re always looking for ways to make access easier,” added Gordon French Upper North Island Stores Manager. “We have Dargaville on the west and Mata on the east serving Ravensdown shareholders and transport operators. We’ll continue to invest in our stores network and infrastructure where those communities and our shareholders will directly benefit,” concluded Gordon.
