bka Breaks through at Umbraco Awards 2012

The bka Team With Umraco Trophy

Auckland website company, bka Interactive are the coolest nerds in town – they have recently won a coveted global Umbraco Award for “Best Integration” on their Giltrap Group website build.

The Umbraco Awards are held annually and are where the best website companies in the world share their leading innovation and design. Only website’s running on Umbraco technology can enter, and with more than 150,000 active sites running Umbraco Content Management Systems, the awards are held in high esteem worldwide.

Barb Anderson, owner of bka Interactive says, “We’re extremely proud of our efforts, in particular our team is really pushing the boundaries around innovation and design for our clients’ websites, while still keeping them easy and functional to use. The digital world has evolved in leaps and bounds in the last few years, and websites are now an important part of the marketing mix. Businesses can create a visually stimulating ‘lookbook’ for their products and services while still allowing consumers access to important information. Our mantra is ‘if it’s not beautiful, it’s not finished!’”

Anderson says that to be recognised globally for the work they’re doing in New Zealand is a great feeling. “It shows as a country we are providing fresh and captivating design, along with functionality to help our businesses here grow and flourish.”

bka Interactive, were one of four companies representing New Zealand globally, and were one of over 80 entries submitted worldwide. Other global brands who use Umbraco include Microsoft, Heinz, Fox, Vogue, Peugeot, Tesco, and Hershey's to name a few.

Peter Gregory, one of the Umbraco judging panel says that bka’s submissions were of top international quality and the judges were blown away by the calibre of their Giltrap Group entry.

“The Umbraco Awards are an opportunity to celebrate all the remarkable and high quality work the community produces when building great Umbraco websites. We were impressed with bka’s integration of a full email-marketing suite into the back office of Umbraco. Editors were able to create, send and manage their campaigns directly from the back office without the need to interact with the third party tool directly,” he says.

Michael Cope, Marketing Manager from Giltrap Group says: “Our website is like a window into our business, it is important that it is modern and is at the forefront of website design and technology. bka has done a incredible job of building a website that is functional and effortless to use, and we are now able to use our website as a fantastic tool to engage with customers. We are delighted with the recognition for bka’s work, and are thrilled that we have one of the best Umbraco websites in the world!”

bka Interactive also won runner-up in the Best Design category for their beautifully simple yet intuitive website for New Zealand band, Six60.

The Umbraco Awards were announced at the CodeGarden 2012 conference in Denmark. The awards catergories include Best Design, Best Integration and Best Technical. Last year, there were over 50,000 sites released using the Umbraco CMS, so it is expected that the Awards will continue to grow.
