Virtual global market delivers new cuisines to NZ tables

Virtual global market delivers new cuisines to New Zealand tables

A new online international food market is giving New Zealanders the know-how to prepare international cuisines at home – with a vast and growing line up of ingredients, beverages and recipes available through a one stop virtual shop.

My Market (www.mymarket.co.nz) offers complete food concepts - from recipes to ingredients - for a range of cultures including Middle Eastern, African, Asian, European, and South American and Eastern European. It also offers a wide array of alcohol ranging from Russian vodka to Asian spirits.

The site groups international food together and offers same day delivery in Auckland for orders placed by 3pm, and next day delivery for orders outside of Auckland, where the new venture is based.

The man behind My Market, Antonio Jalilian, is a self-confessed foodie who saw an opportunity to extend the love affair Kiwis have with experimenting with international cuisines.

“New Zealand’s increasing ethnic diversity means that people are becoming more familiar with and wanting to try foods from other countries. This translates to increasing demand for these foods and their ingredients.

“Traditionally this meant a whole day traversing the city to visit speciality stores or getting as close as you could from the supermarket and making do – in fact you only need to look at the growing international food sections in supermarkets today to see this increasing demand for new international cuisines.

“My Market takes this to a new level and makes it incredibly easy – not only does it offer customers the ingredients but also the know-how of what to do with the ingredients – something which supermarket shelves can’t deliver,” says Antonio.

Alongside the retail of international foods, the website also offers an online community where users can share international food, recipes and ideas. All recipes include a link to the international products featured, allowing customers to print off the recipe and easily order the associated ingredients.

Products are sourced freshly and imported directly, with new products uploaded regularly, with an underlying aim to offer the cheapest prices in New Zealand, says Antonio.

“Our intention with My Market is to bring people, cultures and food together in one place, making international food affordable and ultimately delivering the world to every New Zealander’s door.”
