New Zealand’s Most Requested Bun-Less Burger Is Back!

The KFC Double Down, New Zealand's most requested burger without the bun, will be back on the menu at KFC restaurants nationwide from next Tuesday (24 July).

The high-protein, low-carbohydrate burger, which features two Original Recipe fillets, two rashers of bacon, two slices of cheese and the Colonel's special sauce, is joined on the menu by the Zinger Double Down and the Grilled Double Down options.

KFC’s Double Down, the first-ever bun-less burger, caused a New Zealand wide frenzy when it launched in May last year, with New Zealanders queuing in droves outside stores to sample the highly anticipated burger. Kiwis went on to consume the most Double Downs per capita worldwide.

KFC General ManagerBrent Kitto, says, “KFC received a phenomenal number of requests, via Facebook and Twitter, to bring the Double Down back after it featured on the menu last year. We’re excited to be able to once again offer this taste sensation to our customers, along with the tasty Zinger and Grilled options”.

The Double Down is the most successful burger in KFC history, more than 10 million Double Downs were sold in the U.S. in the first month alone and the burger became Canada’s best selling new menu item after 360,000 burgers were sold in the first 10 days.

KFC’s Original Recipe Double Down, Zinger and Grilled options will be available in stores across New Zealand, for the next six weeks, at a price of $8.90 for the burger, $9.90 for a burger and drink or $10.90 for a burger, drink and chips.

“We hope that fans of the original Double Down burger will also enjoy the popular Zinger and Grilled Double Down flavours – with the Grilled in particular being a great, tasty option for those on a bread-free diet. In addition to the Colonel’s special sauce available last year, customers can also choose from BBQ or Super Charged.”

“While the Double Down serves up double the flavour, Double Down is actually lower in calories and fat than a number of other burgers already on the market,” adds Kitto.
