WorldxChange gets serious about growth plans with new COO

WorldxChange, the first Telco company in New Zealand to implement an exclusively run IP network, has hired industry veteran, Tim Smith as Chief Operating Officer, a real coup for the business as it ramps up its growth plans. Tim joins the seven members of the management team with an ownership stake in the wake of their June management buyout.

“We’ve had our eye on Tim for a long time, and a few of us knew him personally which is important in a small team like ours,” says CEO Glenn Johnstone.

Tim’s career has been firmly footed in the Telco sector, with over 20 years experience working at Clear Communications, Telstra New Zealand, Telecom, Cogent and TelstraClear - his skills as a change agent linking him to a number of key successes.

“Being smaller than our competitors allows us to be more nimble and responsive, but in the past we’ve lacked a bit of structure. Tim will bring his strong operational skills and corporate background to keep us focused on our long term expansion plans”, says CEO Glenn Johnstone.

And growing they have been, according to Chief Sales Officer, Mike Purchase, winning some big corporate and government customers in the past year- most recently, Housing New Zealand Corporation. “We provided a resilient solution for HNZC that no one else could match. It’s this keen focus on delivering quality IP services which provide significant cost savings that differentiates us.“

Tim is excited by the future roadmap for WorldxChange. “My focus is about the operational strength of the business. I have watched them grow and set a new benchmark for IP and SIP services. It’s one of the best-kept secrets in the market – but that’s about to change. Any business looking for a low cost but highly innovative telecommunication solution should keep an eye on us over the next few months.”

WorldxChange is a wholly New Zealand-owned full service telecommunication provider supplying IP solutions for corporate and government clients – along with residential phone and broadband services to approximately 50,000 customers throughout New Zealand.
