Xero adds 128 jobs this year, seeks 100 more

31 August 2012

While many sectors of the economy continue to face substantial challenges, rapidly growing online accounting company Xero is pleased to announce it has employed 128 new staff this calendar year, reaching a headcount of 267. The company is also looking for 100 more talented individuals before April 2013, many of them based in Wellington and Auckland.

Xero General Manager of HR Natasha Hubbard says Xero is seeing strong candidate flow and has processed over 1000 applications in the last 3 months.

“Emerging global companies like Xero are opening up new types of career options for New Zealanders. We are seeing generalist .Net developers specialising in either front end user interface development or back end scalable transaction processing. Many of our recent additions are enjoying the sense of ownership as they move away from project work to take responsibility for product features - making them better over several iterations and driving innovation.”

“Software testing is becoming a valued and well-paid new career option. Releasing quality updates and new features quickly requires rigorous quality assurance. In many ways QA is becoming one of the key roles in our business and provides a pathway for many people to enter the IT industry.

“Customer care roles for computer software have also evolved into prestigious careers and help staff become product experts and responsible for building lifetime relationships with customers all over the world. We’re thrilled to see so many new people grow their skills and quickly become experts in high value business software.

“The growth of companies like Xero is showing the nature of work is changing and knowledge workers have exciting new options to build high value global careers.
