Celebrating Nature’s Ultimate Fuel

Nature knows best and when it comes to fuelling our bodies there is nothing better than an egg. Make eggs your breakfast of choice on 12 October and join New Zealand and the world in celebrating one of nature’s miracles on World Egg Day.

World Egg Day is time for the humble egg to take a bow, as one of the most nutrient rich whole foods; eggs are a powerhouse of 11 different vitamins and minerals. The versatility of eggs makes them the perfect breakfast food with all the energy and protein required to fuel our bodies for the day.

Eating up to six eggs per week is recognised as part of a healthy, balanced diet for most people, according to the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation.
“An egg and a slice of wholegrain toast contain all the nutrition and energy you need to keep you going throughout the morning,” says nutritionist Sarah Hanrahan from the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation. “Eggs contain the most protein of any whole food ensuring they are great value for money and an ideal way to feed a hungry family for less.”

It is estimated that across the world, one billion people are currently underfed and undernourished. As a sustainable, affordable and highly nutritious food source, eggs are the ideal food to nourish the hungry and less fortunate.

The egg producers of New Zealand are on a mission to make sure all of New Zealand can start their day with eggs on World Egg Day. On 12 October they will be fuelling New Zealand food banks by providing trays of eggs for wholesome egg based breakfasts and specially marked World Egg Day six packs to be included in food parcels for those in need.
