World expert to share tips on how to get a grip on workload

Planning and prioritising is the key to working efficiently and one of those life skills that is seldom natural and needs to be acquired. With 20 years experience behind her, Robyn Pearce, world-renowned time management expert from Gettingagrip.com is a specialist on the topic, “People who prioritise well use specific techniques that they have learnt. A lot of the strategies we use at gettingagrip.com can go against the grain and challenge existing behaviours, which is why they need to be taught. Our techniques are simple and can be implemented immediately to keep you on track and focused on the actual priorities rather than distracted by the less important ones. This in itself can save up to an hour a day and will eradicate those frustrating days where we feel we have been really busy, but achieved very little.”

Workloads seem to continually increase and subsequently productivity decreases as we struggle to stay on top of things. There is a need for us to acquire knowledge faster, assimilate and internalise it quickly, be able to make quick decisions as to what is important in the myriad of paper and information around us, and get practical results.

Irma Harris of Te Awakairangi Health Network was acting CEO at Kowhai Health at a time when all their contracts were being reviewed and re-negotiated; a merger was taking place and three senior staff left. “The sheer volume of emails and paperwork was swallowing me up. I needed to be able to keep focused, prioritise and move swiftly yet at the same time I was on a steep learning curve and it was imperative I had a clear understanding of specific elements before decisions were made.” Harris contacted Robyn Pearce; “I had been to one of her breakfast workshops in the past and picked up some techniques that have been very valuable to me. I knew that she would be able to help me plan and prioritise, her techniques could be implemented immediately, and they were certainly what got me through. It was invaluable to have validation from someone, and a plan in which to tackle what I had ahead”.

Robyn Pearce is coming to Palmerston North to share her knowledge with you, in a breakfast workshop focusing on Planning and Prioritising. The workshop will be held on Tuesday 30th October 2012 from 7.00-9.00am at Manawatu Golf Club, Centennial Drive, Palmerston North. For more information visit www.gettingagrip.com/breakfastclub
