40 WINZ Jobseekers Employed at New Mitre 10 Mega Manukau

Mitre 10 will open its Manukau Mitre 10 MEGA store this weekend with 40 Work and Income New Zealand jobseekers filling positions in the new store.

Mitre 10 and WINZ worked together to fill 40 of the 80 new staff roles needed to provide service to the Mitre 10’s 33rd MEGA store.

Mitre 10 Chief Executive John Hartmann said it was great to be able to work with WINZ to find mainly locally based people needing work to fill the roles.

“Our stores play a positive role in community-based activities and with so many new jobs created by the opening of this new store in the area it is a good start to be able to help local people find local jobs.”

Mr Hartmann said the position of the new Mitre 10 MEGA store reflected growing demand and population in the area with the MEGA store positioned to service the growing lifestyle communities in Clevedon and Alfriston as well as support trade and retail customers in Manukau.

“Manukau is one of New Zealand’s largest population centres and continues to grow at pace. It continues our growth in new stores in recent years as we focus on expanding and refreshing out national network. This is the third of four MEGA stores to open before Christmas, with the next store opening in Rotorua in early December.

The Manukau store on Lambie Drive is a 10,700sqm store, offering huge product variety at the price customers have come to expect of New Zealand’s most trusted hardware brand.

“Home improvement is a big part of New Zealand’s culture. DIY is in our DNA and the MEGA format really seems to meet the needs of those getting stuck into a job.

“The new Manukau MEGA store joins Mitre 10’s national network of nearly 100 stores. It will house an undercover building material drive-thru facilitating a complete trade service, an extensive garden centre, children’s play area and cafe,” said Mr Hartmann.

To celebrate the opening of the Manukau Mitre 10 MEGA store Mitre 10 is offering a Grand Prize of $5,000 of products to one lucky shopper over the opening weekend and anyone spending over $25 goes into a draw to win 1,000 Fly Buys points.

The Mitre 10 MEGA man will be in store on Saturday and Sunday mornings performing truck pulls, strong arm and brick squeeze events at various times during the day. Face painting, bouncy castles and sausage sizzles are all part of the planned weekend of entertainment and in store bargains.
