Vector Network News week ending 4 November

Vector Network News

NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 4 November 2012

ELECTRICITY
It’s been a fairly quiet week for our crews. Response crews attended two fires; one in Forrest Hill, affecting approx 45 customers and the second in Wiri which affected no customers. Crews were also called to Silverdale to close a transformer door, lines down in Mt Roskill, an incident in Takanini, where a truck brought down power lines and two feeder faults in Mt Wellington and Avondale affecting a small number of customers. In all cases issues were quickly resolved and power was restored.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There was one third party strike on our network when a contractor struck a 10mm PE service pipe in St Heliers. Crews also attended two suspected gas leaks in Te Kuiti and Ponsonby. In all cases fault crews made sites safe and repaired the equipment. Please take care around our gas network and call 0508 B4 U WORK (248 967) or 0800 B4 U DIG if outside Auckland.

PROJECTS
After shutting down for winter to reduce the risk of outages to customer’s electrical supplies, the project to replace the 33kV switchyard at Wairau recommences this week. Over the next few months, the remaining circuits will be changed from the old outdoor switchyard to the new indoor switchboard.

Once completed, the old outdoor switchyard will be dismantled and removed. The new modern indoor switchroom is the largest switchboard of its type in the world and will provide increased security to customers, improved safety to maintenance teams and the public, while allowing greater flexibility to the network operator. The project represents a significant investment in the future of the North Shore and will ensure power supplies meet existing and future needs.
