BEEFLAMBNZ.COM Wins Prestigious Website Award

Beef + Lamb New Zealand scooped the hotly contested prize for best private sector website at this year’s WriteMark New Zealand Plain English Awards.

The annual awards honour the organisations and people who are trying to make the world a better place by banishing jargon and gobbledygook.

The judges said: “This is certainly the best entry in the category. Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s farmer website shows a strong commitment to plain English. The purpose is really clear and the pages show plain language, active verbs, and short sentences. Useful summaries and clear navigation help site visitors quickly find what they need.”

Beef + Lamb New Zealand Chief Executive, Scott Champion says the organisation is committed to using clear, reader-focused language in its publications.

“Farmers are the ultimate straight talkers, so when we rebuilt our website last year, we wanted to make sure we do the same. Our vision was to provide a one-stop shop where New Zealand sheep and beef farmers can quickly find information to help them farm smarter.

“It was a great opportunity to review our content according to those all-important principles of conciseness, clarity and usability. Because it doesn’t matter how good your information is if no one reads it.”

Our users say they like the new site. Web statistics confirm it. Now more people visit more often – and read more while they’re there.

We worked hard to get our website to where it is now, so we’re absolutely thrilled to win this award. We reckon we can do even better still, but it’s splendid to know we’re off to a good start.
