Salaries expected to increase to secure top talent

PRESS RELEASE

Salaries expected to increase to secure top talent, Hays Quarterly Report

As the demand for specific roles and skill sets increases, the need to raise salaries to attract these candidates is likely to occur.

This is one of the findings of the latest Hays Quarterly Report, out now and covering January to March 2013, which aims to highlight the skills hot spots while revealing some interesting candidate and employer trends.

“Salaries are expected to increase in the construction industry, for example, particularly for residential contractors in Christchurch,” says Jason Walker, Managing Director of Hays in New Zealand. “A talent war is anticipated to take place, which will drive up salaries for top candidates and increase new arrivals to the region.”

“Also, highly sought after candidates will receive multiple offers. So, employers will also need to be aware that attracting these skills requires a serious review of recruitment processes, including offering more individual tailored contracts, faster decision making to secure the best talent and marketing their particular regions to candidates.

“Candidates also need to be aware that more qualified professionals may be moving in to Christchurch from overseas and increase competition for specific roles, according to the Report.”
