Capital goods prices unchanged overall – Media release
In the December 2012 quarter, the price of purchasing new capital items remained unchanged from the September 2012 quarter, Statistics New Zealand said today. Increases in prices for residential buildings, civil construction, non-residential buildings, and land improvement offset decreases for plant, machinery, and equipment, and for transport equipment.
The major upward
contributions to the CGPI came from:
• the residential
buildings price index (up 0.5 percent)
• the civil
construction price index (up 0.7 percent)
• the
non-residential buildings price index (up 0.3
percent).
The rises in the December 2012 quarter were offset by decreases in the price indexes for plant, machinery, and equipment (down 0.9 percent), and for transport equipment (down 0.4 percent).
In the year to the December 2012 quarter, the CGPI rose 0.9 percent.
The CGPI measures the change in the purchase price of capital goods used by New Zealand producers.
