Riverbed Named Technology Of The Year For Best Wan Accelerator By Infoworld For Seventh Consecutive Time

Riverbed Steelhead WAN Optimisation Appliance Running RiOS 7.0 Recognised for Added UDP, Citrix ICA, IPv6, Kerberos and Video Stream Splitting

SAN FRANCISCO – February 19, 2013Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the application performance company, today announced that it has been awarded IDG's InfoWorld 2013 Technology of the Year Award for Best WAN Accelerator for Steelhead® wide area network (WAN) appliance running Riverbed Optimisation System (RiOS®) 7.0. Selected for the seventh consecutive time, the Riverbed® WAN optimisation solution enables businesses to run faster and more efficiently, delivering consistent service levels to end users and cutting the costs of IT infrastructure. In the review, Steelhead appliances running RiOS 7.0 were specifically recognised for their added support for UDP, Citrix ICA, IPv6, end-to-end Kerberos and video stream splitting. Additionally, RiOS 7.0 was given the distinction of Editor’s Choice and a high score of 9.1 out of 10 in the WAN Accelerator category.

Riverbed Granite also won the InfoWorld Technology of the Year. More details can be found here: http://www.riverbed.com/us/company/news/press_releases/2013/press_021913b.php.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition by InfoWorld for best WAN accelerator for the seventh consecutive time,” said John Martin, senior vice president, product management at Riverbed. “Hypercovergence and new data centre architectures are transforming the way global organisations are doing business, demanding innovative WAN optimisation solutions that address the performance challenges of today and the future. As organisations of all sizes embark on IT initiatives such as consolidation and virtualization to build hybrid and software-defined data centre architectures, Riverbed continues to step up to the plate to help eliminate performance barriers, which enable organisations to maximize the expected benefits such as cost efficiency, manageability and flexibility.”

Selected by InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers, the annual awards identify the best and most innovative products on the IT landscape. Winners are drawn from all of the products tested during the past year, with the final selections made by InfoWorld’s Test Centre staff. All products reviewed by the Test Centre are eligible to win.

In the review, product reviewer Keith Schultz noted that “performance proved top-notch, as always, and the reporting engine gives admins all the information they could want.” He later stated “there are a number of other vendors with good all-around solutions, but few come close to what Riverbed offers.” Schultz concludes that “with each new release, Riverbed continues to define what a WAN optimisation solution should be.”

Steelhead appliances enable increased architectural flexibility and reduced costs while also enhancing the user experience no matter where they are located. In RiOS 7.0, the software that powers the market-leading WAN optimisation solutions, Riverbed broadened the support for key enterprise applications and extended its leadership in delivering speed, scale, simplicity and security to the globally connected enterprise. In this release, Riverbed added support for UDP, Citrix ICA, IPv6, end-to-end Kerberos and live video stream splitting via HTTP, as noted by InfoWorld. Additional features include QoS, scale and security enhancements, and integrated Cascade® Shark functionality into the Steelhead appliance to deliver on-demand packet capture and analysis, allowing customers to leverage their Steelhead appliance for branch monitoring and troubleshooting.

More than 22,000 organisations worldwide depend on Riverbed to understand, optimise and consolidate their IT infrastructure, through solutions that overcome performance issues caused by distance, distributed computing, and ever increasing amounts of data. As IT organisations embark on strategic initiatives to virtualise, consolidate and migrate workloads into cloud environments, users are moved farther from their data. Slow applications, slow file transfers and inefficient websites can negatively impact the performance and success of these initiatives. Riverbed transforms IT performance by providing solutions spanning WAN optimisation, edge virtual server infrastructure (edge-VSI), application-aware network performance management, application performance management, application delivery controllers, web content optimisation (WCO), and cloud data protection. By providing the broadest portfolio of performance solutions that deliver anywhere, any-application optimisation, Riverbed enables organisations to increase productivity and efficiency, while enhancing business resilience and controlling costs.
